In Autumn 2021 we decided that one of our projects to reimagine the old bowling green should be a community orchard. This will be our contribution to getting more trees planted in our corner of North London as we all try to tackle climate change; will improve the habitat and biodiversity of the site and will, in time, provide a whole new focus for bringing local people together around food growing.
At the start of 2022 we sought advice from a specialist on how to get an orchard established, tested the soil and made plans. Thanks to the generosity of one of our members, we bought 12 trees (4 apple, 4 pear, 2 plum and 2 crab apple) in memory of Carrie, one of our members who sadly died in 2021.
