The Friends of Chapman’s Green organise community events throughout the year. Look out for details of events here, and get in touch via our Contact page if you would like to get involved as a volunteer, a stall holder or a musician. If your local business or community group and would like to be involved in future events, get in touch.
Apple Day: Saturday 22nd October, 10am-2pm
It’s a big day in the history of Chapmans Green as we begin to turn part of our meadow into an orchard with the planting of 12 assorted fruit trees. The day starts with the important job of getting the trees planted, from 10am, followed by a chance to relax and socialise from about midday. Please come and help it you can, or just come along from midday to meet your neighbours and enjoy the apple-themed after-party.

The Friends’ Summer Picnic: Sunday 21st August, 12-2pm
This month our regular litter-pick and tidy-up of the park will be followed by an informal gathering on the meadow. Bring food and drinks to share, a rug to sit on and we’ll see you there!

Christmas Planting Party: Sunday 5th December, 2 – 4pm
COME AND HELP US PLANT HUNDREDS OF SPRING BULBS AND JOIN US AFTERWARDS FOR MULLED WINE AND MINCE PIES!
Christmas is coming, but at Chapman’s Green we’re already thinking ahead to the Spring. We’ve been fortunate to receive a stack of bulbs from the council which we’ll be planting this Sunday from 2-4pm – and we need your help! Wrap up warm, wear some sensible shoes and bring a trowel if you have one (just in case we end up with more helpers than tools). No gardening expertise required. We’ll be planting up areas of the old bowling green, which you’ll be able to access through the gate at the side of the pavilion (Perth Road side). In Spring we should see plenty of daffodils, bluebells and more appearing to brighten up the space.
You can also find out more about our exciting plans to create a community orchard at Chapman’s Green.
In other bulb-related news, we’ll be switching on the pavilion’s Christmas lights at 4pm while we warm-up with some mulled wine and mince pies. The pavilion will be open, but in light of the situation with Covid we thought people would appreciate the option of some outdoor socialising (weather permitting). Please do bring a mask for those moments when you are inside.

Picnic on The Green: Sunday 22nd August 2021, 1 – 4pm
We didn’t plan any big events this summer just in case the Covid situation made it difficult, but we’re keen to welcome people onto the old bowling green for an informal picnic. This will be chance for you to meet the Friends, hear some of our ideas for the future of the space (and to hear yours!) and to take a look inside the pavilion which we will soon be sharing with local charity Inspirit. Bring your own food and drink and something to sit on!

Summer Party on The Green 2020: CANCELLED
Like so much this year, we had to cancel our summer gathering for obvious reasons. But watch this space for more events once they become possible again!
Chapman’s Green Christmas Social: Sunday 8th December, 2 – 4pm
Join us for mulled wine, mince pies and maybe even a few carols inside the pavilion. Nothing fancy – just a get together for our friends and supporters to share some ideas for next year’s activities.

The Party on the Green 2019: Sunday 21st July, 12 noon – 4pm
This year’s summer event marks 400 years since Chapman’s Green was first recorded, so we’re making this our biggest and best yet. Expect entertainment from musicians including Bowes Park Choir and Tindal Folk, a wide range of stalls, plus games, activities, face painting, ‘Wild Energy’ the Bubble Man entertainer and a bouncy castle. If your local business or community group would like to bring a stall, get in touch!
